Handgun Track Overview
Ohio Shooting Sports offers 4 Levels of Handgun courses built upon tried and true modern handgun shooting instruction techniques. Our instructors have years and years of practical experience that they bring to the classroom and to the range. Our handgun courses have been developed by drawing on the depth of knowledge and experience from our instructors and from the top shooting schools and instructors found in the USA.
Handgun 1 & 2 build a solid foundation of fundamental concepts and essential techniques necessary to develop substantial defensive mindset and efficient handgun handling and shooting skills.
In our Handgun 3 “Extreme Close Encounters - Combatives for Concealed Carry" integrates unarmed combatives and concealed carry tactics. We know that most confrontations happen at distances less than 10 feet and being able to fight to your handgun is a necessary skill you must have available to you. All of our classes build upon each other to provide you with the best defensive and tactical information available today.
Our Handgun 4 "Advanced Conceal Carry Tactics and Low Light Skills ” This course brings all of the skills and tactics taught in our handgun classes with an emphasis placed on the use of these tactics in low light situations. This course employs a variety of exercises that are designed to develop your gun handling skills and real world tactics. We utilize live fire training and scenario based training and force on force sessions on the range to reinforce skills needed to defend oneself. This class will start at 2pm and run until 10pm so we can train in low/no light conditions. This course, no matter what your training, will take you to the next level.

Handgun 1 "Ohio Concealed Carry Training (CCW) Plus+"
Our Hangun 1 course is a one day, 12+ hour introductory handgun course designed for beginning and experienced students. This class meets and exceeds the educational and practical training requirements set forth by Ohio Law to obtain your concealed carry license. We offer multiple classes for handguns so we view this as your first step in your formal handgun training. This course will qualify you to apply for your Concealed Handgun License with your local county Sheriff. We will provide you with all of the information and tools you will need in order to complete this course. You only need to bring a good attitude and a willingness to learn. We offer classes 30 minutes south of Columbus near Circleville Ohio and near Zanesville Ohio 1 hr east of Columbus. Both courses are held at professional facilities that offer state of the art shooting ranges and classrooms.
Since the Ladies Attend "Free" promotion for CCW classes has been such a success we are going to extend this program into 2012. This program is designed to encourage more couples to train together and for more women to take more responsibilty for their own safety. Essentially, all women who attend our CCW class with a student paying full price will still recieve all classroom and range instruction for free but the difference in price between the single and couple prices is to help cover the cost of range fees, lunch, dinner and ammunition, etc. This is great program for traditional couples, father-daughters, brother & sister or even two ladies will qualify as a couple for this class. In order to take advantage of the "Ladies Attend Free" promotion, all we require that one person in the couple is female.
We provide everything needed to complete this course: Firearms, ammunition, lunch & dinner, targets, eye and ear protection, books, safety brochures, attorney for the legal section, range time, certified range officers, targets, Ohio Concealed Handgun License application form, Ohio Concealed Carry Law Booklet, and even note taking materials. We strongly encourage you to bring your own firearm and holster if you already own one. If you wish to use your own firearm bring 150 rounds of ammunition. We only provide ammunition for our firearms.

This course will focus on the defensive uses of the handgun as well as competitive and recreational use of this firearm. The day will be concluded with firearm cleaning and maintenance.

- The ability to name, explain, and demonstrate the rules for safe handling of a handgun and proper storage practices for handguns and ammunition
- The ability to demonstrate and explain how to handle ammunition in a safe manner.
- The ability to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to shoot a handgun in a safe manner.
- Gun handling training to include range time and live-fire experience.
- Concealed Carry Issues as they relate to Ohio Law presented by an attorney.
- Review of Ohio's Concealed Carry Publication.
- Firearm holster selection and concealment options.
- Must pass a written exam demonstrating handgun competency usage and rules.
- Pass a live fire exam that tests his or her competency regarding handgun usage and the rules for safe handling, storage of a handgun and a physical demonstration of the attitude necessary to shoot a handgun in a safe manner.
