Defensive Knife - An Introduction to Martial Blade Concepts
Unfortunately the world we live in has become increasingly violent, as a result many people have taken to “going armed” – they seek out training, apply and receive their Concealed Handgun License (CHL) and feel this prepares them for the violent world ahead. Everything has seemingly fallen into place until they realize there are many places that you cannot legally carry a firearm. In many cases, it is permissible to carry a knife in these environments.
In Defensive Knife, we will look at using a knife to defend ourselves against lethal force contact distance encounters. In this course we will look at:
• Holding the knife to manage impact shock
• The dynamics of cutting
• Targeting priorities
• Common edge weapon threats
• “Speed stops” – A default series of responses to stop a violent attack quickly
• Knife deployment
• In-fight access
Based on Michael Janich’s system, Martial Blade Concepts (MBC) is a training program specifically, designed to meet the needs of today's concerned citizen and armed professional. MBC emphasizes the development of “all-purpose” defensive skills (concepts). Rather than learning a large number of specific techniques to defend against specific attacks, MBC focuses on perfecting a few proven techniques and learning how to apply them to literally hundreds of different defensive situations. Through this easy-to-learn method, students develop defensive proficiency very quickly and have both the ability and the confidence to employ their skills after only a brief period of training. MBC’s goal is to “learn how to fight effectively with a knife” – applying the attributes of the knife to the broadest possible set of defensive circumstances.
This course is taught by Bryan McKean who has been a student of Mr. Janich’s since 2002. He is currently a Certified Instructor in MBC and has assisted Mr. Janich on many occasions. In addition to MBC, Bryan also holds multiple black belts in several traditional martial arts, is a reserve policeman and has taught this series for many companies, dojos, and individual groups.
